About

Daniel Baas is a freelance editor and cinematographer based in Grand Rapids, MI

He is a recent graduate of Calvin College ('16) and has worked on several student films in his time at Calvin, as well as working on the 13-episode studio show "Calvin College News", a satirical take on campus events.

In summer of 2015, Daniel worked as a McGregor Fellow with Prof. Samuel Smartt on two documentary films. The first, Shipping Home follows a couple in North Carolina who decided to build their first home out of shipping containers. It is set to be released in 2016. The other film Daniel worked on is Luminous, a chronicle of Calvin professor Dr. Larry Molnar's prediction of the nova of a binary star. This prediction would be the first prediction of a nova in history.

For Luminous, Daniel served as a field recording engineer, camera operator, and any job needed for shoots that took place in New Mexico, Wyoming, and Michigan. He also worked as an assistant editor and cut together the first public trailer for the film which can be seen here. With Shipping Home, he was also an assistant editor. That film is currently playing in festivals around the country.

Daniel previously worked for Calvin Video Production at Calvin where he was a Production Associate, creating branded storytelling videos for the college, as well as directing streaming content for other internal clients.
